Scarlett Johansson to lead "Ghost in the Shell"

According to a report from Variety, Scarlett Johansson has signed on to lead Dreamworks live-action adaptation of the popular anime, Ghost in the Shell. Originally The Wolf of Wall Street star, Margo Robbie was rumored to star in the film, but shortly there after it was rumored that Scarlett Johansson offered the role. I'm sure the Box Office success of Johanson's most recent film, Lucy, helped the studios decision making process in wanting her. Although I did care for Lucy for the most part, the action sequences with Johansson were great, and it makes sense to cast her for this role.

When originally offered the role, Johansson was unsure whether she should take the role or not. Now according to Variety, she has signed on. The story for Ghost in the Shell follows the exploits of a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission that specializes in fighting technology-related crime. Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing the film and Bill Wheeler has written the script. As of right now Director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) is set to helm the live-action adaptation. Sources have also said the Paramount Picturse may co-produce and become the financer. We'll know if they come through or not within the upcoming weeks.

I personally have no previous experience with the source material, so as of right now, I can't say I'm excited for it. But the premise sounds interesting enough that I'm curious to see the film. Everyone I know that has seen the original animated film loves it! So hopefully Hollywood can create a great live-action adaptation for the fans and newcomers like me.
